I had never met my great-grandmother before. In fact, I knew very little about her until I started this blog. It all began with a phone call from my mother, who was in the process of moving. She asked if I wanted an old tin that held a variety of cooking recipes from her grandma. Naturally, I said yes—who doesn’t love antique things?
Once I received the tin from my mom, I eagerly delved into its contents. Inside, I found an assortment of recipes, some of which were old article clippings from magazines, while others were from long-gone supermarkets. As I sifted through these recipes, I sensed that I had stumbled upon something special. Though I couldn’t quite put my finger on it, I knew that these culinary relics were too precious to keep to myself.
Let me start by admitting that I’m not an expert in the kitchen or behind the keyboard. While I can whip up a meal and string together a sentence, most of the cooking in our household falls to my husband. With a background in Teaching and a focus on general and animal science, writing isn’t my forte. But as I pondered ways to share these treasured recipe cards, I entertained the idea of a cookbook, a blog, or even a YouTube channel. After consulting with friends and colleagues, I’ve decided on a combination of both—a cookbook intertwined with a blog documenting my journey. As I craft recipes for the cookbook, putting my own spin on them, I’ll be sharing updates and insights here, inviting you to join me on this culinary adventure.
So here I am, stepping into the world of writing and blogging, venturing into the realm of cooking with a hint of nervousness about what lies ahead. However, with summer break looming on the horizon and a need to fill my time until the next school year begins, I find myself drawn to this new endeavor. So, let’s cast aside those doubts, roll up our sleeves, and embark on this journey of exploration together!
